DeepPlay?VideoGamesandtheHistoricalImaginary深度游戏?电子游戏和历史想象AndrewDenning2AprilAbstractVideogamesearned43.8billioninrevenuein,andmanyofthemostpopularandenduringgamesinrecentyearsaresetinhistoricalenvironments.Theyareaformofpopularartthatshedslightonthementalitéofourera.Asthisarticleargues,theactofparticipatinginhistoryinvirtualforumsframesthepublic’sviewofhistory.ThisarticleexamineshowrecentvideogamesfocusedontheNazisshapepublicunderstandingoftheThirdReich,aswellashowtheystagewhoandwhatmattersinhistoryandassumehowhistoricalchangeoccurs.Historicalvideogamesconnectthepasttopresent,shapinghistoricalmemoryandcontemporarypoliticaldebatessimultaneously.Videogamesareaformof“deepplay”thatbuildknowledgeofthepastandpresent,butthatknowledgemustbebroadenedthroughhistorians’attentiontostructuralforcesanddisadvantagedgroups.Historiansshouldunderstandhowvideogamesshapethewiderpublic’sknowledgeandphilosophyofhistory,andtheyshoulddevelopstrategiestobringthevirtuesofplayintotheirownresearchandteaching.
